Well it’s December 2 and as warm as it’s been lately, I’m beginning to lose faith that my trash barrel zucchini plant will ever yield any actual zucchini. That’s what I get for shopping a 99-cent plant sale in October. Gardening here in El Paso is a bitch. For me, anyway.
In other El Paso plant news, I bought a rosemary Christmas tree at the supermarket last weekend. I have high hopes for it, as I always do with rosemary Christmas trees, but I have yet to keep one alive. Maybe here in EP I’ll have better luck, seeing that it grows like a weed in my front yard. I put this one in my kitchen, said a few prayers over it, and now it’s a waiting game.
I’m working at the kitchen table today
because some dog who shall remain nameless peed directly into the power strip in my office, thereby shorting out the costly-costly power strip. It was actually sizzling and sparking, and the pee turned black, so I yanked the plug from the wall and ran from the room.
For background ambiance in my kitchen office today, I have a DVD of the Andy Griffith Show playing on an endless loop in the background.
And in closing, I’d like to report that the Thanksgiving ham marathon has ended. All that was left was the bone, making it no longer my concern. Timmy and Sydney can work it out. We’re done with it.
Rosemary needs 6-8 hours of sunshine a day (southern exposure is best). Mine from last year really likes its sunny window. Be sure to cut it back regularly to stimulate more growth (and for your recipes that call for it). They like cool temperatures, around 60-62, and good ventilation, but not cold drafts. Water it enough to keep the soil slightly moist, and don’t allow it to dry out completely. Never leave it sitting in a saucer of overflow water. I give mine 1-2 cups of water every other day or so.
Steph
Thank you Steph! Rosemary has always been so illusive to me. In Massachusetts it’s an annual, but it never even made it through the summer. Here it grows as shrubs in my yard, but I’ve still had trouble keeping it as a plant. I’m going to try your suggestions. Thank you! ๐
K, I love your kitchen table. That’s the kind of table I am looking for. And I have that same TV! Except the remote crapped out on me so I have to operate all the buttons by hand. Doesn’t that totally suck? That last picture of the dogs is too trippy. When I look at it, it looks like Timmy (? the bottom doggie) is translucent and the crease in the concrete appears through his body. In reality, I’m sure it’s just because his collar lines up with the crease in the concrete so perfectly. It’s too trippy.
I’m glad you like our table. We got it Massachusetts, but I’m sure it’s a common table. And I can’t believe you lost your remote! Ugh. You should try a universal remote. I couldn’t get up and down all the time anymore, though it used to be the only way to do it. And you’re right, that photo of Timmy does look really weird! I didn’t notice until you pointed it out. It’s his hair. He parts it in a very strange way. ๐
Oh, and I meant to add – peeing on the power strip must have been freaky too. It’s good it didn’t electrocute you or the dog.
I know that you know exactly which dog did this to me. And did it on purpose, I might add.
I love the color of your kitchen ! Excellent color . Annnnd, I’m glad to see your playing the andy g. dvd I gave to ya a while back .Don Knots was so funny in that . I would love to have that rosemary tree . I havent seen any in PA yet .
I have high hopes for this rosemary tree. We shall see, we shall see …
Beware of dogs and power cords……………….
Ha! You are so right. I’m lucky the dog who shall remain nameless didn’t get electrocuted. And the horror goes on…last night I thought it might be safe to check my desktop computer, plug it in and hope it wasn’t effected. Well it was effected. It came on for 2 seconds, then everything shut down and went black.
Hey I checked out your site and your dogs are beautiful! I love corgis, never had one but always wanted one. Maybe some day. And a heads up — I tried to go to your “Candid Camera” but the link wasn’t working.
Thanks for stopping by! ๐
Once Barney left the Andy Griffith show, it went downhill from there. The Fife made that show. My dad and I used to sit down every day and watch Andy Griffith, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, and Hogans Heros on TV Land when I was younger. We still watch them when I go home to visit and I love it.
Me too! I remember being home from school with a cold or something and laying on the couch with pillows and blankets and watching Andy Griffith and Green Acres and and the Beverly Hillbillies. Barney and the original cast really did make that show, when they replaced Andy with Ken Berry it just wasn’t the same. It seemed kind of depressing, actually. Ken Berry depressed me! He was better on F-Troop.
I hope your plants survive. It will give me hope. I’m known to kill all plants in the general vicinity. Except for my spider plant and so far, so good with an aloe plant. Maybe my luck is changing?
Sixty+ degrees? That sounds heavenly. Although it wasn’t too cold today but I know it won’t be long now before the frigid weather is upon us.
Spider plants are very forgiving. I need to get me some.
And as for the weather, it snowed here yesterday. It melted when it touched the ground, but snow is snow. ๐
Glad you enjoyed the visit to the dogs ๐ and thanks for the heads up on the link, I’ll let the webmaster know. Sorry your computer got peepeed too. Bummer
I love these photos that show us your surroundings. Kind of gives us a Wendy’s eye view. Shame on the doggie that peediddled on the power strip. She’s (I mean “he or she, whoever he or she is”) is lucky to be alive. And I want a rosemary Christmas tree soooo badly–they’re really keen.
Yes, shame on her, I mean IT for peeing into my electrical supply. I’m lucky there was no cooked dog under my desk. Buck fixed the power strip but I’m keeping it on my desk from now on.
Don’t rush out and get a rosemary tree … mine is doing very poorly right now. ๐ฆ
Now THAT is an xmas tree!
I don’t know what’s worse … tiny dogs pissing power strips or …
fade to black, Andy Griffith Show whistling theme song …
I hope the naughty doggy was startled by the conflagration. Oliver likes to piss on the shop vac. Little bastard!
Oh and congratulations on finishing the ham. Life’s little victories, huh? I hope the dogs get fair bone share.
I brought the last bit of turkey leftovers to work for lunch today. What’s that? they asked. It’s “turkey wiggle” I tell them. Oh OK they say. Usually I have the Friday special, fishwich and fries. Next Friday I will.
Wendy, I can’t believe you’re trying to pin the pee episode on my adorably cute and wonderful Stella. Look at that face, she’s innocent of all accusations in my book.
cough, cough
Oh no!!!! Black Pee?!?!?! Sorry but I’m laughing my A$$ off…I love your kitchen work-space by the way, it feels cozy and vibrant ๐
Black pee is the very worst kind of pee because it’s been cooked.
Thanks for likin’ my kitchen! ๐
No news on the blog? Maybe tomorrow? Hmm.
I second the cough cough.
And also, I just have to say that Stella, in that cute little shot above, looks guilty as HELL to me. I mean that in a NICE way.
